Est. 2019 Dar es Salaam

Python Tanzania,
OSS Community.

From a handful of enthusiasts in Dar es Salaam to the team that brought DjangoCon Africa to the continent — twice. Python Tanzania runs the conferences, workshops, and meetups that grow the country's developers.

The journey

How Python took root

A real sequence with each year built on the one before it.

2019

First PyCon Tanzania

The inaugural national Python conference — grown out of grassroots meetups and Django Girls workshops, and backed by the Python and Django Software Foundations.

Where it all began
2020

PyCon Tanzania

Data science, ethical hacking, forensic investigation and cloud computing — with networking at the centre.

2022

PyCon Tanzania

The fourth edition — momentum that set the stage for hosting DjangoCon Africa.

2021

PyCon Tanzania

A strong data science and AI/ML track, plus the Fourth Industrial Revolution and cybersecurity.

2024

Fifth PyCon Tanzania

300+ attendees and 100+ students over five days.

2026 — new

PyData Tanzania

Data science joins the line-up — tutorials, talks and sprints across data, ML and the wider Python ecosystem.

2026 — next

Sixth PyCon Tanzania

The next national conference is in planning — bigger workshops, more students, wider reach.

On the continental stage

Tanzania hosted DjangoCon Africa — twice.

The first-ever DjangoCon Africa came to Zanzibar in 2023, and the second to Arusha in 2025 — organised by this community for developers from across the continent and beyond.

Ubuntu in Tanzania

UbuCon Africa came to Arusha.

In 2025 the community co-hosted UbuCon Africa alongside DjangoCon Africa in Arusha — held on Django's 20th anniversary, and bringing the Ubuntu and wider open-source community together with developers from across the continent.

The programme

The full five-day timetable

One conference, five days — 10–14 November 2026 in Dar es Salaam. Django Girls opens the week, PyData brings the workshops and talks, and PyCon closes it out. Each track also lives on its own site; this is the whole picture in one place.

In their words

Real voices from the community

I used to think Python was hard. After practising it here, it clicked — and I left sure I could build web applications myself.

There's a huge amount of energy in this community — people sharing real experience and the technologies they're actually building.

Through Django Girls I learned to build a web app step by step — there were always mentors ready to show us what to do next.
